Pros & Cons of War
Some world leaders think there are advantages to waging war. They do it for land gains, economic gains or they do it for religious reasons. Sometimes they do it simply to force their ideology onto the people of another country. In the past we have had leaders such as Adolf Hitler of Germany who was a Fascist. He believed that he could rule the world and that Germany should be a supreme nation. Because he believed that part of Poland historically belonged to Germany he decided to invade Poland to gain this land. Later as revenge for the German loss during WWl he decided to go after France. Because of his hatred towards Jewish people, he tried to wipe them out. In his mind, there were many pros involved in waging war. One of the biggest advantages was that he created national pride in the hearts of all Germans and he improved the economy, which was devastated during WWl. In Adolf Hitler’s case, war had many pros.
In many cases, leaders that wish to wage war do not consider the cons of war. Many people are killed or injured during war. They include your family, friends, relatives, pets, livestock and wildlife. Dealing with these injuries or deaths can be very sad for those people involved and can have long-term effects on everyone.
War destroys the land where battles take place. Buildings, factories, roadways and bridges are destroyed or damaged and quite often, people’s houses are involved. In rural areas, forests and water streams could be damaged and cause effects on the wildlife that depend on them.
War can cause us to lose our personal freedom. When another country takes us over, we may lose our freedom to express our opinions or practice our religion. We may also lose our right to free movement and to ownership of property. Our knowledge of news may be controlled and our right to elect our government representatives may be taken away from us.
Conclusion
In conclusion it is my opinion that war is very bad although sometimes going to war is necessary in order to help people. The reason why I am saying this is because if there wasn’t war in the past I would probably not be free to write this essay or express my personal opinions. My reasons for saying that war is very bad is because war can cause us to lose our freedom or our country and fighting a war could cause us to lose our friends, family, relatives and yes, maybe even our own life.
